What is the AMS?
The Automated Manifest System, or AMS, is the system that is used by the U.S. customs to
efficiently manage shipments coming from foreign countries to the U.S.
More about AMS
The U.S. Customs Border and
Protection allows different types of agencies, such as freight forwarders, freight agencies
and carriers to file from the AMS. Additionally, according to the U.S. customs regulation, agencies
who file through the AMS must also submit the ISF at least 24 hours before the shipment is loaded on
the ship or plane. Failure or late submission of the AMS and ISF may result in penalties of at least
$5,000-$10,000.
