What is AES?
The Automated Export System (AES) is an electronic system used by exporters who ship goods,
which are valued more than $2,500 from the U.S. to declare international exports.
More about AES
AES is connected to the U.S. Customs Border and Protection and the Census Bureau, which monitor the
exported goods and avoid the critical issues. To file AES, the required information is a detailed
description of the goods (e.g., HS code, weight, and commodity), involved parties (e.g., an exporter
and importer), transportation information, such as the port of loading, the port of lading and
ultimate destination. After AES filing is accepted, a 10-digit ITN code will be assigned to the
shipment and cannot be adjusted.
