Savannah terminal tracking refers to the process of monitoring container status at the Port of Savannah, primarily through the Georgia Ports Authority's (GPA) WebAccess system. The port has two terminals, Garden City Terminal and Ocean Terminal, and WebAccess tracks each one as a separate facility, so the first step in any Savannah lookup is choosing the terminal that holds your container.

Port of Savannah Terminal Facilities

The Port of Savannah operates two main terminals, both owned and operated by GPA:

Garden City Terminal West (GCT West) is a 100 acre container storage yard inside Garden City Terminal; it is tracked under the Garden City facility. Savannah also has other FIRMS codes for rail ramps and off terminal container yards, so the code on your arrival notice can point to a location other than a pier.

For most Savannah containers, freight forwarders interact with Garden City Terminal (L737 and L738), which handles the vast majority of containerized cargo at the port. Ocean Terminal matters for breakbulk and project cargo, for container services GPA moves there as the renovation progresses, and for vessels using the Ocean Terminal lay berth before moving up to Garden City.

Port of Savannah Gate Hours

Extended Hours: Garden City Sunday hours and Ocean Terminal weekend hours open only when ocean carriers request them, by 1:00 PM the day before. Moves after the cutoff times need carrier overtime authorization. Check the GPA holiday closings page for current schedules; in 2026 both terminals close on Thanksgiving (26 November) and Christmas (25 December).

Do You Need an Appointment at the Port of Savannah?

GPA does not publish a truck slot appointment system for Savannah. Every move is pre advised in WebAccess: the motor carrier submits the transaction, and WebAccess issues a transaction number the driver uses as a PIN. GPA is renovating Savannah’s 200 acre Ocean Terminal so it can serve two large container ships at once. Phases I and II have delivered 2,650 feet of berth, and GPA plans to finish the first half of the container yard in 2027 and the second half in 2028. The work also adds expanded truck gates and a dedicated exit ramp to U.S. 17 and Interstate 16. Ocean Terminal already serves as a lay berth where inbound ships wait close to Garden City, which GPA says cuts berth idle time from 12 to 15 hours down to three hours.
